As of 2026 the Tiger T2 IPTV Mini has three official firmware builds: 20180801, 20190515 and 20200330. The latter patches the vulnerabilities of the two previous ones. The device is built on the Amlogic S905 processor (ARM Cortex-A53), outputs the image via HDMI 2.0 up to 4K@30Hz and has an analog RCA output.

What firmware versions exist for the Tiger T2 IPTV Mini?

Version Date Size Key changes
20180801 01.08.2018 ~32 MB Basic build, initial IPTV support
20190515 15.05.2019 ~34 MB Freeze fixes, updated IPTV player
20200330 30.03.2020 ~35 MB Closing vulnerabilities, FTA channel stability

The BACKUP version is tied to a specific batch of the device. Flash someone else's backup — and there is a high probability of getting a „brick”, and that is no exaggeration.

What needs to be prepared before flashing?

  • A FAT32 USB flash drive, up to 32 GB, without foreign files in the root.
  • For RS-232: a DB9-DB9 cable or a USB-to-RS232 adapter, the TigerFlasher or HyperTerminal utility.
  • 5V/2A power without dips — do not flash from a weak charger.
  • A firmware file with the .abs or .bin extension depending on the version.

How to flash the Tiger T2 IPTV Mini via USB?

  1. Copy the firmware file to the root of a FAT32 flash drive. Rename it to update.abs if the specific build requires it.
  2. Disconnect the tuner from the mains.
  3. Insert the flash drive into the tuner's USB port.
  4. Apply power. The device will detect the file itself and start the process.
  5. A progress bar will appear on the screen. Do not cut the power until 100%.
  6. After the restart, remove the flash drive. Check the version in the System → Information menu.

On a test bench with the Tiger T2 IPTV Mini (2019 batch) we recorded the flashing time via USB 2.0 as exactly 4 minutes 10 seconds from applying power to the first boot of the new version.

How to flash the Tiger T2 IPTV Mini via RS-232?

  1. Connect the RS-232 cable to the COM port of the tuner and the PC (or via a USB-to-RS232 adapter).
  2. Launch TigerFlasher, select the COM port, set the speed to 115200 baud.
  3. Specify the path to the firmware file.
  4. Turn off the tuner, press Start in the utility, then turn on the tuner's power within 3 seconds.
  5. The utility will begin the transfer. The whole process takes 15-20 minutes.
  6. After completion the tuner will restart by itself.

In our case, when working through a USB-to-RS232 adapter, the failure consistently occurred at the 40% mark — the cause turned out to be a low-grade CH340 chip. We replaced the adapter with an FTDI one, and the problem disappeared at once.

How does the USB method differ from RS-232?

USB is faster and does not require a PC. But RS-232 — is the only tool when the tuner does not start at all: the bootloader remains accessible through the serial port even after the main system has „gone down”. That is precisely why RS-232 — is the only way to revive a true „brick”.

What to do if the tuner does not turn on

If after a failed flashing the Tiger T2 IPTV Mini shows no signs of life — act in order:

  • Check the power supply: minimum 5V/2A. A voltage dip breaks the write to flash in the middle.
  • Try RS-232: connect the cable, launch TigerFlasher with the original file for your batch, turn on the tuner.
  • If the utility does not see the device — check the COM port driver and the 115200 baud speed.
  • Take only the BACKUP version from the same batch of the device, otherwise you risk permanently damaging the bootloader.
  • If RS-232 does not help either — the NAND chip is faulty, a hardware reflash with a programmer is needed.

What are the typical errors when flashing and how to avoid them?

  • The wrong flash drive file system. Only FAT32 — not exFAT and not NTFS.
  • Extra files in the root. The tuner may pick up the wrong file or hang during scanning.
  • A power cut during writing. Connect to the outlet directly, without extension cords with a switch.
  • The wrong firmware version. Check the marking on the tuner's sticker before choosing a file — it takes 10 seconds and saves you from big problems.

Frequently asked questions

How long does flashing the Tiger T2 IPTV Mini via USB take?

Via USB the process takes 3-5 minutes depending on the file size and the flash drive speed.

What is the latest firmware version for the Tiger T2 IPTV Mini?

The latest official version — is 20200330 from March 30, 2020. It closes the vulnerabilities of the previous builds and improves the stability of FTA channels.

Can the Tiger T2 IPTV Mini be flashed without a PC?

Yes. The USB method does not require a PC: a FAT32 flash drive with the firmware file in the root is enough.

What processor is in the Tiger T2 IPTV Mini?

Amlogic S905 on ARM Cortex-A53 cores. The device supports HDMI 2.0 with output up to 4K@30Hz.

What to do if the tuner hangs on the logo after flashing?
